DESCRIPTION

The Extron PowerCage FOX Rx VGA Fiber Optic Receiver is a modular board designed for the PowerCage® 1600 that enables long haul transmission of high resolution VGA, audio, and RS-232 control signals over a single fiber. Engineered for reliability and exceptional high resolution image performance, it uses Extron all-digital technology to deliver perfect pixel-for-pixel transmission of computer-video images up to UXGA 1600x1200 resolution. Designed specifically for AV systems, the PowerCage FOX Rx VGA also includes many integrator-friendly features such as image adjustments and calibration, Auto Input Memory, RS-232 control, internal test patterns, and real-time system monitoring. Multiple receiver boards can be daisy-chained.The double-slot board design of the PowerCage FOX Rx VGA allows for as many as eight receivers to be populated in the PowerCage 1600 enclosure, reducing installation time and simplifying power management. The receiver is hot-swappable, allowing board replacement in the field at any time without having to power down the system.
The PowerCage FOX Rx VGA is part of the extensive FOX Series of fiber optic products from Extron and is compatible with FOX Series HDMI, DVI Plus, DVI, VGA, and VGA/YUV transmitters. It can be used for simple point-to-point applications or in combination with FOX Series distribution amplifiers, switchers, and matrix switchers to handle the most challenging AV system designs, from a simple conference room to an enterprise-wide fiber optic distribution system.
The receiver is ideal for a wide range of applications requiring long distance acceptance of high resolution content with the highest quality. Because transmission of content is inherently secure and immune to outside interference, fiber applications are favored in government, military, and medical environments. The PowerCage FOX Rx VGA board features industry standard LC-type connectivity.
The PowerCage FOX RX VGA MM board supports multimode fiber at 850 nm, which is typically used within buildings or facilities with moderate-range transmission distances. The PowerCage FOX Rx VGA SM board supports singlemode as well as multimode fiber at 1310 nm. Singlemode fiber offers long-range transmission capability over extreme distances of up to 30 km (18.75 miles). It is used in very large facilities such as airports and stadiums, as well as connecting over very long distances between facilities such as university campuses.
The PowerCage FOX Rx VGA provides controls for optimizing the video output signal for proper display. It also features sync format conversion for RGBHV or RGsB output. Several receiver boards may be daisy-chained within the PowerCage 1600. Additionally, it can be daisy-chained with FOX Series receivers or with receiver boards in other PowerCage 1600 enclosures to support applications with displays in multiple locations.
The receiver can be controlled and configured using the RS-232 port on the corresponding transmitter. With a second fiber link installed, functions for both units can be controlled at either location. Since the receiver is typically situated far from the transmitter, this capability adds considerable versatility, enabling adjustment and calibration of video and audio at the receiver. It also allows for verification of fiber link status between the transmitter and receiver.
Digital-to-Analog RGB Conversion
The PowerCage FOX Rx VGA is ideal for AV systems that include analog display devices. Pairing the PowerCage FOX Rx VGA with a FOX Series HDMI, DVI Plus, or DVI transmitter provides easy conversion of digital source signals to analog RGB.
Features
* Accepts fiber optic signals from a FOX Series transmitter and provides VGA, stereo audio, and RS-232 control signals — Accepts signals from Extron FOX Series HDMI, DVI, VGA, and VGA/YUV transmitters for integration flexibility.
* Outputs: RGBHV, RGsB, or HD component on 15-pin HD; balanced/unbalanced stereo audio on captive screw connector — HD component output is available when the receiver is paired with a FOXBOX VGA/YUV transmitter and an HD component video source.
* All-digital technology provides pixel-for-pixel performance with signals up to 1600x1200 — The PowerCage™ FOX Rx VGA delivers pixel-for-pixel transmission of video signals to ensure optimal image quality at resolutions up to UXGA (1600x1200). Signal resolutions higher than UXGA can be accommodated, but will not be sampled at a 1:1 pixel ratio.
* Modular, hot-swappable board designed for the PowerCage 1600 enclosure, part # 60-978-01 — Additional boards may be added at any time for quick and easy upgradeability or expansion. Hot-swappable components allow the user to replace boards at any time without the need to power down the system. This is especially useful for mission-critical applications that require continuous system operation.
* Space-saving design enables up to eight fiber optic receivers to be mounted in a compact 3U enclosure — The double-slot design allows up to eight receivers to be installed in the PowerCage 1600 enclosure. The PowerCage 1600 eliminates individual power supplies for each board, and provides forced-air cooling for each module.
* Daisy-chain capability — Several PowerCage FOX Rx VGA boards can be daisy-chained within the PowerCage 1600. The receiver can also be daisy-chained with FOX Series receivers, or PowerCage FOX receivers in other PowerCage 1600 enclosures, so that displays in multiple locations can be served from a single transmitter.
* Available as an 850 nm multimode model for moderate-range transmissions up to 2 km (1.25 miles) and a 1310 nm singlemode model for extreme distances up to 30 km (18.75 miles)
* Second fiber link enables bidirectional RS-232 pass-through, control from either location, and real-time system monitoring
* Industry standard LC connectors provide reliable physical connectivity and precise fiber core alignment
* Alarm notification for fiber link loss — The receiver board can be set up to trigger an external control system for immediate notification when a fiber link has been lost. Requires a second fiber link.
* Auto Input Memory — When activated, the PowerCage FOX VGA receiver board automatically stores size, position, and detail settings based on the incoming signal. When the same signal is detected again, these image settings are automatically recalled from memory.
* 30 user memory presets — In addition to Auto Memory, 30 user memory presets on the PowerCage FOX VGA receiver board are available for saving and recall of size, position, and detail information for multiple incoming sources. The ability to save and recall presets is useful in switcher-based environments.
* Audio muting capability
* RS-232 control — The PowerCage FOX Rx VGA features an RS-232 serial port for control and configuration. A second fiber link allows for control of the receiver at the transmitter, as well as remote verification of fiber link status and the presence of input VGA and audio signals.
* Internal test patterns for calibration and setup — Three test patterns are available, including grayscale, color bars, and alternating pixels.
* Auto-Image™ automatically optimizes output — A press of a button automatically adjusts the sizing, centering, and filtering to optimize the output image. This can save time and effort in fine tuning displayed images. Requires a second fiber link.
* Compatible with Extron FOX Matrix Switchers for signal distribution systems up to 1000x1000 and larger
* Compatible with Extron FOX Series distribution amplifiers and switchers
* Compatible with Extron FOX Series HDMI, DVI Plus, DVI, VGA, and VGA/YUV transmitters
